A man lost his life in a Groveland motorcycle accident on Friday, October 9. The accident happened in the evening and was reported to the authorities at around 7:25 p.m.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the fatal incident happened on State Road 33 near Groveland. It involved a motorcycle rider traveling northbound on the road. He was riding a trike-style motorcycle at the time.
Florida Highway Patrol reports revealed that the driver of the motorcycle, who has not been identified, passed a number of vehicles. He then attempted to overtake a semi-truck while driving in the northbound lanes. It was then that the motorcycle ran into a second vehicle. It isn’t clear whether this second vehicle was also traveling in the northbound lanes or if it was an oncoming vehicle in the southbound lanes.
The collision took place close to the intersection of Evans Avenue. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the incident as per the accident reports.
The driver of the motorcycle sustained critical injuries in the collision. He was not wearing a helmet at the time. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene once the first responders reached the site. FHP didn’t release the name of the deceased although he was identified as a Clermont male aged 54.
The other driver involved in the collision sustained critical injuries. As the paramedics responded to the incident, he was airlifted to Orlando Health where he remains under treatment.
FHP continues to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations at this point is to determine the precise cause of the crash. Preliminary facts of the incident suggest that the motorcyclist was driving recklessly which directly caused the fatal incident.
