A vehicle fleeing from the police overturned on Sunday, July 12. The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another four.
According to the details shared in a report from Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicle involved in the crash was identified as a sedan-type vehicle. At around noon on Sunday, law enforcement was pursuing the vehicle as it traveled southbound on the State Road 85. It wasn’t immediately clear why the vehicle was being pursued and what has prompted the chase.
As the vehicle turned onto the State Road 123 in the southbound lanes, the driver veered the sedan towards the west shoulder. Given the speed of the vehicle, the driver lost control which caused the vehicle to overturn at a high speed.
The sheer speed at which the car overturned caused all occupants of the vehicle to be ejected. The car had five occupants in it at the time, including the driver. FHP has not revealed the names of any of the occupants so far. However, it has identified one of the occupants as a 17-year-old Fort Walton Beach male. This person lost his life after sustaining critical injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Other occupants were identified by FHP as three other Fort Walton Beach residents and a Freeport resident. Of the Fort Walton Beach residents, a 15-year-old was reported as critical while a 20-year-old male and a 15-year-old male was reported to be in serious condition. The Freeport resident, also aged 15, was reported to be in serious condition.
All the injured persons were transported to a local hospital. As more detail emerge, it will become clearer as to why the vehicle was being pursued and if any formal charges will be brought against any of the occupants.
