A three-vehicle crash in Jacksonville resulted in the death of an elderly man on the afternoon of Friday, December 11. The accident also caused injuries to another man.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the three vehicles involved in the crash were identified as a red Lexus, a black-gray BMW sedan, and a gray Ford pickup. It was reported to the police just after 4:50 p.m. The precise location of the incident was close to San Pablo Road on Butler Boulevard.
The Lexus was headed eastbound along State Road 202 at the time. As per the FHP report, it was traveling at a fairly high rate of speed. As the vehicle drew close to the San Pablo Road, the driver of the Lexus tried to overtake a second vehicle. This was the Ford, also eastbound and traveling in the left lane at the time.
As the Lexus was overtaking the Ford, its front right side collided with the rear left of the Ford. It then went past the Ford before colliding with the left rear of a second vehicle, the BMW. The Ford remained relatively safe in the collision but both the Lexus and the BMW veered out of the control of their respective drivers.
The BMW crashed head-on into the concrete median after losing control. The Lexus driver lost control at a fairly high speed which caused the vehicle to lose balance and overturn several times before coming to rest on the right shoulder.
The driver of the Lexus sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. He was identified by FHP only as a 61-year-old male. The BMW driver, identified as a 68-year-old man, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The Ford occupants remained safe from any injuries.
The three-vehicle crash in Jacksonville is under police investigation.
